Case Study - The Child Care Corporation
The Requirement
Each nursery delivers food to children so all staff with very few exceptions are
designated as food handlers. On this basis they are required to complete a basic
food hygiene course.
The Problem
"Arranging food hygiene training for all staff was a huge inconvenience; as a result
the training targets for this area were never met. Staff attended courses run by
the local authority or they completed a workbook course. Both of these methods were
very time consuming and expensive.
The Solution
High Speed Training provides online courses which can be accessed by staff any time
any place. A table of usernames and passwords to the High Speed Training online
Learning Management System is provided; these can be distributed to staff whenever
necessary. All staff can take the training in their own time at their own pace.
The training can be spread out over several sessions if necessary to fit round busy
schedules.
Speed, efficiency and success. The style of learning reflects the attitudes of most
of our staff (many of who are young, female and of the text, internet networking
type). They can complete the course at home and we just give them time off in lieu.
Where access to a computer or extra support is needed we can let them do it in the
nursery; our two oldest members of staff have even completed it with a bit of TLC!
A few of our staff still access other routes, but overall the figures speak for
themselves.
Few of our staff seem to ‘fail’, but the ability to retake at no further cost is
also an incentive to us as a company – with the local authority you have to attend
again and our provider of the workbook courses charged for retakes (plus it had
to be invigilated, was sent in the post and frequently got lost)."

Case Study – Rethink
The Requirement
Rethink is the leading mental health charity in the UK, working to help everyone
affected by severe mental illness to recover a better quality of life. They help
over 48000 people every year through their services. These services are involved
with food preparation and storage; as a result they need to train their staff in
food hygiene.
The Problem
Individual services around the UK attempted to arrange attended training courses
in food hygiene locally with varying degrees of success.
The Solution
High Speed Training provides online food hygiene courses which can be accessed by
staff any time any place, all they need is a PC with an internet connection. A table
of usernames and passwords to the High Speed Training online Learning Management
System is provided; these can be distributed to staff across the UK whenever necessary.
All staff can take the training in their own time at their own pace.
Training in this way has provided huge benefits:
- Flexible – staff can do it when they like.
- Cheaper and more convenient than organizing centralized
training.
- Bought the package in bulk so received a discount.
- Management reports very useful to keep abreast of progress.
