{"id":6398,"date":"2019-09-16T09:30:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-16T08:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/hub\/?p=6398"},"modified":"2024-08-16T12:55:01","modified_gmt":"2024-08-16T11:55:01","slug":"desk-ergonomics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/hub\/desk-ergonomics\/","title":{"rendered":"Understanding DSE: Do You Know How to Set Up A Desk Ergonomically?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Importance of Understanding DSE<\/h2>\n<p>Failing to adopt a good posture or set up equipment properly at a computer workstation can lead to postural problems (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/hub\/work-related-musculoskeletal-disorders\/\">musculoskeletal disorders<\/a>), particularly if users are at their desks all day without moving or changing their posture much.<\/p>\n<p>With the majority of office workers in the UK spending an average of between 4 and 9 hours at their desk each day, they are at an increased risk of harming their body due to working in a sedentary state for prolonged periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s primarily the role of your workplace\u2019s DSE assessor to ensure that people\u2019s workstations are set up as ergonomically as possible, so that the harm posed to their body is lessened.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>DSE Assessor duties include:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Identifying DSE-related hazards<\/b> in the workplace, e.g. chairs that are not ergonomic or poorly arranged equipment.<\/li>\n<li><b>Making arrangements<\/b> to reduce or eliminate DSE-related risks, e.g. sourcing ergonomic chairs and equipment for users based on their needs.<\/li>\n<li><b>Following up any problems or reports<\/b> of DSE-related issues, e.g. discomfort in the back or strained eyes.<\/li>\n<li><b>Carrying out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/hub\/dse-risk-assessment-template\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DSE assessments<\/a><\/b> and recording all their findings.<\/li>\n<li><b>Providing information and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/courses\/health-and-safety\/dse-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">training<\/a><\/b> to workers in the proper use of DSE and good posture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>A great deal of the responsibility lies with you, the DSE user<\/b>, of course. DSE assessors can\u2019t be expected to hover around a person\u2019s desk 8 hours a day, 5 days a week to make sure that equipment stays in the proper positions and that users don\u2019t slouch in their seats.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why of all these control measures, <b>receiving information and training will be one of the most effective.<\/b> It gives you the means to take care of your own health; to keep your desk set up properly and to adopt a good posture.<\/p>\n<div class=\"tip__box\">\n<div class=\"tip__title__container\">\n<div class=\"tip__title__text\">\n<div class=\"tip__title__icon\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/expert-tip-icon.png\" alt=\"expert icon\" \/><\/div>\n<h3>Need a Training Course?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highspeedtraining.co.uk\/courses\/health-and-safety\/dse-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DSE Training<\/a> provides you with an awareness of the health risks associated with working with display screen equipment.
