In the UK, there are approximately 16 million people with disabilities, nine million of whom are of working age and could be contributing towards your business. However, people with disabilities face a number of challenges to employment, beginning with inaccessible job applications. They also experience negative attitudes and behaviours, including people making assumptions about their condition and judging their capabilities.
This Disabilities Awareness for Employers course will support you in playing your part in reducing the disability employment gap by giving you the confidence to successfully recruit and retain workers with disabilities. The course explains the different types of disabilities people may have, how disabilities can impact people’s work and how you can support them with reasonable adjustments, how to create a more inclusive workplace and how to ensure your recruitment processes are accessible to all.

Aims of the course
By the end of this course, you will:
- Understand what a disability is, the different types of disability and know how a disability may affect a person's work.
- Know what is meant by disability discrimination and the legislation that protects workers with disabilities.
- Understand the role of an employer in making reasonable adjustments for workers with disabilities and what this may involve.
- Be able to create job applications and ensure that recruitment opportunities are accessible for everyone who may apply.
- Understand the health and safety risks to those with a disability and what you can do to keep them safe from harm.
- Know how to create an inclusive work environment and positive workplace culture.

| 5 | Creating an Inclusive Workplace | This module explains what language and behaviour are appropriate, why having an equality policy is essential and how to respond to disability discrimination at work. |

Assessment
The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 15 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.
