Filtering respiratory protective equipment (RPE) uses filters to remove contaminants in the air. This prevents harmful contaminants from being breathed in and protects the wearer from harm. However, RPE can’t protect the wearer if it leaks or is not suitable for the task at hand. Experts estimate that 95% of people are using their RPE incorrectly or using the wrong mask or filter.

This Face-Fit Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Training course gives you the knowledge to use filtering RPE safely and effectively, whatever your role. It covers recognising the respiratory hazards you might face, understanding the different types of RPE, carrying out pre-use checks, selecting and changing filters correctly and looking after your equipment through proper cleaning, storage and reporting of damage.
Module 1: The Damage You Can’t See
This module explains the respiratory hazards you might not notice, and why they can cause serious harm long before you feel any effects. It covers the hierarchy of control and where RPE fits within it, the difference between filtering respirators and breathing apparatus, and how tight-fitting and loose-fitting RPE protect you in different ways. It also outlines who's responsible for what, whether you wear RPE, arrange it for a team or manage your own protection as a self-employed tradesperson.
Module 2: How To Use Your RPE Safely
This module covers everything you need to know to use your RPE effectively. You'll learn why face-fit tests for tight-fitting RPE are vital and what makes one valid, how to select and change the filter, and how to carry out a pre-use check. It also explains how to wear, clean, dry and store your RPE correctly, why you should never modify your equipment, and what to do if you spot damage, contamination or any other issue that puts your protection at risk.
Once you have completed all of the online training material, you will be able to take the online assessment. The assessment consists of 10 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked instantly, so you will know whether you have passed as soon as you finish.
If you don’t pass the assessment, you can review the course material and take the assessment again as many times as necessary at no extra charge.
This training is suitable for anyone who wears, arranges or supervises the use of filtering RPE at work. This includes, but isn't limited to:

How do I access the training?
All of our training is done within your web browser - there are no apps to download or software to install.
After picking the courses you need and completing your purchase, you will receive a confirmation email. To access our courses yourself or to distribute them to others you just need to click the ‘Get Started’ button within the email and select which option you want. You will then be able to add the course(s) into an existing account, or create a new account.
Can I buy training for my team?
Of course just add the amount of courses you need and follow the purchase process. Please do be aware that it is one course per learner so they will all need their own course.

Yes. You can use your username and password to log in and revisit the training material as many times as you like, even after completing the course.
Is there a time limit on completing the course?
No, we want our courses to work around you so there’s no time limit in which you must complete the training after making a purchase. You can also split your training over as many different sessions as you wish, as course progress is saved as you make your way through the training. You’re free to learn entirely at your own pace.
