This course will teach you about epilepsy and seizures, including what epilepsy is, causes, triggers, symptoms and the different treatment options. You will learn about the effects that epilepsy can have on a child or young person's development and functioning, as well as how to support individuals living with the condition.

The course outlines the different responses to different types of seizures, how to recognise an emergency situation and how to support an individual after a seizure. Module 2: Understanding Epilepsy and Seizures

Types of seizures, triggers of seizures, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

Module 3: Providing Support During a Seizure

How to respond to a seizure, how to recognise an emergency situation, recording a seizure and support after the event.

Module 4: Impact on Development and Functioning

Learning difficulties, memory, processing difficulties, effects of medication, injuries and falls, sleep and mood and behaviour.

Module 5: Supporting Those with Epilepsy

Talking about epilepsy, managing risks, risk assessments, individual healthcare plans (IHPs), education, health and care plans (EHCPs) and working together.
