Planet

Our environment matters to us. We take action to reduce our negative impact on the planet and engage our stakeholders on this journey too.

Understanding our impact

To enable a better understanding of our impact on the planet, we have been measuring our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), across all scopes, since 2023.

Our full scope CCF for 2024 is 795.82 tonnes CO2e. This increased slightly from 2023 (720.18 tonnes) and we believe that this is primarily due to refining our measurement approach.

Positive steps

We are committed to reducing energy use and waste at our Ilkley HQ and, as a virtual-first business, supporting colleagues to do what they can at home.

Energy:

Our Ilkley office has been run on entirely renewable electricity for over five years and in 2024 we introduced LED lighting and single-flush mechanisms. We have recently added smart meters to help reduce energy consumption even further.

Waste:

We are proud that no waste is sent for landfill from our Ilkley HQ. We work with a specialist waste services company that generates Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) from our non-recyclable waste, and all other waste is differentiated and recycled.

We have extended the lifespan of the company’s digital devices, so that they are replaced less often. And when hardware is no longer needed by the business, we donate it to our charity partners and local community organisations.

Suppliers:

We have improved our supplier outreach and engagement; utilising carbon accounting software and introducing a more rigorous procurement process, to be more proactive in assessing suppliers so that we foster collaboration and create a sustainable and transparent supply chain.

EnvironMentors

We have a committee that drives initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and encourage others to get involved. Since it was formed this group has provided clear information about reducing energy whilst working from home, sustainable travel choices, run a digital detox campaign, and partnered with the Combined Authority to deliver workshops for colleagues on reducing their personal carbon footprints.

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust

High Speed Training has partnered with the environment charity, the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, since 2024 to tackle climate change and nature loss in The Yorkshire Dales and The Forest of Bowland. We fund the planting of 250 native broadleaf trees and the restoration of one hectare of wildflower hay meadow every year and our colleagues enjoy using their volunteering time to get involved in these projects.
