A fall arrest safety harness can minimise the consequences of a fall from height, but anyone who uses a safety harness for working at height must be trained to use it correctly to keep their workplace safe.
This safety harness training course explains your responsibilities for using a safety harness correctly at work. It teaches you to recognise and manage the risks associated with using safety harnesses, how to put on a safety harness correctly, including performing safety checks and fitting it, and how to maintain a harness through proper cleaning and storage procedures, preventing damage and ensuring it is safe to use. It also outlines how to respond if someone falls in their harness. The course provides foundational knowledge that you can apply during practical safety harness training.
This course introduces the types of safety harnesses that can be used for working at height, with a focus on fall arrest harnesses. It explains the roles of different attachment points on a harness. It details how to perform user safety checks and fit your harness correctly, how to maintain it and prevent damage through proper cleaning and storage, and how to respond if someone falls in their safety harness.
Once you have completed all of the online training material, you will be able to take the online assessment. The assessment consists of 10 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked instantly, so you will know whether you have passed as soon as you finish.
If you don’t pass the assessment, you can review the course material and take the assessment again as many times as necessary at no extra charge.
Using a fall arrest safety harness can reduce the risk of serious injury from a fall, but training is essential to ensure it's used correctly and safely.

Director of Prusik Rescue
Clive Bush is a Rope Rescue and Working at Height specialist with a background in the UK military and 24 years in frontline emergency services. For the past 18 years, he has focused on Rope Rescue and Working at Height (WAH), functioning as a Rope Rescue and Rope Access Instructor. He is the Director of Prusik Rescue, a company providing safety training and consultancy.
Clive holds CEAT & CAVA assessor qualifications, alongside IOSH, FAAW, and FAAH training. His certifications include UKRO Rope Assessor, ITRA Level 3, IRATA Level 3, MATS Certificate, Rooftop Worker Certificate, and RF Certificate. He has also served on the London Eye Rescue Team.
His previous roles include Force Lead Rope Access Instructor and Rope Rescue Instructor for the police. He participates in the College of Policing's working group on Police Rope Access. Clive was invited by the British Embassy to deliver a Rope Rescue Operator course to Military SAR units in Bosnia BiH and provides WAH training to organisations such as Network Rail in the UK.
