Module 1: Introduction to Safer Recruitment

The importance of safer recruitment, children most at risk, raising awareness including case examples of Matthew Mowbray, Kandice Barber, Jonathan Clayton, and Ian Huntley, and key guidance.


Module 2: Compiling Recruitment Documentation

Preparing to recruit, applicant information packs, job description, person specification, safeguarding statement, self-disclosure forms, selection process outline, application forms and references, and creating a successful job advert.

Module 3: Prior to Interview

Considering applications, online searches, contacting referees, reviewing self-disclosure forms, and preparing for the interview process.

Module 4: Interviewing Candidates

Before the interviews, conducting the interview, asking questions, question styles, listening actively, causes for concern, and closing the interview.

Module 5: Pre-Appointment Checks

Pre-appointment checks, eligibility to work in the UK, Section 128 orders, DBS checks, confirming information, remaining checks, the Single Central Record, hiring through third parties, and making a conditional offer.

Module 6: Continuing Safer Recruitment Practices After Appointment

The induction process, code of conduct, monitoring and supervision, maintaining a safe workplace, allegation management, low-level concerns and the case example of Vanessa George.

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.

This course is suitable for anyone who has responsibility for any part of the recruiting, mentoring, or supervising new staff members to work with children and young people. This applies whether you’re hiring full-time, part-time, or voluntary workers.
