This Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training course helps learners understand how to use PPE safely and correctly. Module 1: Introduction to PPE and Legal Requirements

In this module, we discuss what PPE is and its role in health and safety at work. We outline legal duties for the selection and use of PPE alongside the hierarchy of control and employee responsibilities.

Module 2: Risk Assessment, and Selecting and Providing PPE

In this module, we outline the five steps of a risk assessment, who should carry out a risk assessment and the importance of involving employees in the suitable selection of PPE. We also look at the duties of manufacturers and suppliers in marking PPE. 

Module 3: The Management and Use of PPE - Part 1

In this module, we will highlight the employer's duty to manage PPE selection, use, maintenance and storage as well as explore some of the common risks to different parts of the body along with the appropriate PPE protections that should be provided to control the risks.

Module 4: The Management and Use of PPE - Part 2

In this module, we continue to explain further common hazards of work activities and how to use different types of PPE to protect workers against the risks, including high visibility clothing, PPE for working at, or near to, water and PPE for work at height. It also discusses the importance of health surveillance, effective maintenance of PPE, and the necessary information, instruction and training.

Module 5: Inclusive PPE

In this module, we provide guidance on the provision of inclusive PPE to all workers. It explores the gender gap and different body types, religious and cultural PPE requirements, as well as reasonable adjustments for those with disabilities and medical aids.

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 20 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.

This Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training course is suitable for a wide range of industries that may need to use PPE as part of the control measures for work activities.

It is suitable for all employees, as it teaches learners about what their responsibilities are in regards to the safe use and maintenance of PPE required for their role.

It is also suitable for duty holders such as employers and self-employed people, who have a legal duty to uphold health and safety, as it explains what their duties are in regards to the selection, use, supervision and maintenance of PPE. It can also be taken by senior staff, such as managers and supervisors, who will be involved in the selection, use, supervision and maintenance of PPE.

What types of PPE does the course cover?

The course covers the selection, use, supervision, and maintenance of eye and face protection such as goggles and visors; safety helmets; respiratory protective equipment (RPE) such as powered respirators and breathing apparatus; hearing protection such as earmuffs and earplugs; body, arm, hand, leg, and foot protection such as protective gloves and safety boots; high visibility clothing; fall protection systems such as fall arrest systems; and PPE for work near water i.e. personal flotation devices (PFDs).


Does this course cover clinical PPE?

No, this course does not cover clinical PPE, e.g. disposable gloves and masks used in healthcare settings, as it is not covered by the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at Work Regulations 1992 (The PPE Regulations). The course focuses on the types of PPE that are covered by the PPE Regulations, as listed above.


What other types of equipment does the course not cover?

This course does not cover ordinary indoor or outdoor clothing, uniforms to present a corporate image, clothing for food hygiene purposes, motorcycle helmets, and clinical PPE, as these are not covered by the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at Work Regulations 1992. The course focuses on the types of PPE that are covered by the PPE Regulations, as listed above.

Yes. You can use your username and password to log in and revisit the training material as many times as you like, even after completing the course.


Is there a time limit on completing the course?

No, we want our courses to work around you so there’s no time limit in which you must complete the training after making a purchase. You can also split your training over as many different sessions as you wish, as course progress is saved as you make your way through the training. You’re free to learn entirely at your own pace.
