Drug and alcohol misuse can occur in any workplace, but is particularly prevalent in industries where safety-critical, high-stress work takes place, such as in the construction and trades sector.
This course will give you an understanding of substance misuse and your legal responsibilities regarding it, in order to manage incidents of workplace misuse, as well as the wider issue of misuse, sensitively and appropriately. It will teach you to recognise the physical and social signs of misuse, as well as risk factors contributing to workplace misuse and the potential consequences of it. Module 1: What is Alcohol and Drug Misuse?
This module introduces substance misuse in the workplace by outlining relevant drug and alcohol statistics and exploring a case study on the impact of substance misuse in the construction sector. It outlines the risks associated with drug and alcohol misuse, particularly in the construction and trades sector, explaining why this industry is at high risk of misuse.
Module 2: Understanding Drugs and Alcohol
This module outlines the most common types of drugs and the health impacts they can have, as well as the social and professional consequences of substance misuse. It also explores the risk factors that can contribute to drug and alcohol misuse in the workplace, as well as how to identify signs of drug and alcohol misuse.
Module 3: Supporting Employees with Drug and Alcohol Misuse
This module explains the laws around substance misuse in the workplace for employers and employees and how to implement a drug and alcohol policy to tackle workplace substance misuse, as well as other methods for combating workplace substance misuse.
The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 12 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need with no extra charge.
This course is most suitable for both employers and employees who work in industries where safety-critical work takes place, particularly those in the construction and trades industry.

How do I access the training?
All of our training is done within your web browser - there are no apps to download or software to install.
After picking the courses you need and completing your purchase, you will receive a confirmation email. To access our courses yourself or to distribute them to others you just need to click the ‘Get Started’ button within the email and select which option you want. You will then be able to add the course(s) into an existing account, or create a new account.
Can I buy training for my team?
Of course just add the amount of courses you need and follow the purchase process. Please do be aware that it is one course per learner so they will all need their own course.

Can I access the training material after I have completed my course?
Yes. You can use your username and password to log in and revisit the training material as many times as you like, even after completing the course.
Is there a time limit on completing the course?
No, we want our courses to work around you so there’s no time limit in which you must complete the training after making a purchase. You can also split your training over as many different sessions as you wish, as course progress is saved as you make your way through the training. You’re free to learn entirely at your own pace.
