Supporting a child’s mental health is a vital part of ensuring they have the best start in life. Anyone can struggle with their mental health at anytime in their life and this is also true of children. When these needs go unsupported it can have life long effects, hindering a child’s potential to reach their full potential. Schools are well positioned to support children who are struggling with their mental health and to encourage conversations around mental health so that no child suffers in silence.

Mental Health Resource Pack for Schools

We have curated a mental health resource pack to help you support the children in your setting. Our mental health resource pack will provide you with valuable insight into the difficulties that children can face and how schools can provide meaningful and timely support.

Inside the pack you will find:

  • How to Promote Positive Mental Health in Schools – Offers guidance on how to foster positive discussions about mental wellbeing in the classroom.
  • How to Promote Staff Wellbeing in Schools – Provides insight on how schools can support the mental wellbeing of staff and how to recognise the signs of teacher burnout.
  • How to Write a School Mental Health Policy – Explores the benefits of having a school mental health policy and how it can be a positive signifier to parents and students alike.
  • School Mental Health Policy Example – A useful example to help guide you through the process of creating your own school mental health policy that is tailored to your environment.
  • Child Mental Health Quiz – A short quiz to test your staff’s awareness of child mental health.

Mental Health Posters for Schools

Posters are effective visual aids that can be used to reiterate the importance of looking after one’s mental health. Displaying them prominently signals to staff and students alike that a school recognises that people can struggle with their mental health and that there are structures in place to support people who may be struggling. Placing posters around the school ensures that mental health is spoken about openly and positively and not limited to one week out of the year or only discussed in hushed conversations rooted in shame.

We have created a range of posters which you can download and display to help support positive mental health in your school. The posters encourage students and staff to reach out if they are struggling and signals where support can be accessed. Place posters in plain sight and try periodically switching them around so that they don’t become ‘part of the furniture’ and ignored over time.
